Paco Vílchez exposes the export success stories in Navantia
Navantia's head of engineering, Paco Vílchez, spoke today in a round table in which he reviewed the technological evolution of Navantia in the last 50 years, focusing on export programs that have brought Navantia 10 million euros and highlighting that Navantia has exported to 20 countries in the last 10 years.
He has explained that products such as the F-100, the LHD and the BAC initially designed for the Spanish Navy have become success stories for export. The F-100 and later the F-105 have inspired ships such as the F-310 frigates of which 4 were built for Norway and the AWD of which 3 were contracted for Australia. This is also the case with the LHD, on which the TLHD for Turkey and ALHD for Australia have been based.
It has also presented the contracts for Australia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia as successes. In this first country, where Navantia has a subsidiary with more than 100 people, including AWD, ALHD, LCM, BAC and life cycle support, the company has invoiced 2,230 million euros in ships totaling 110,000 tons displacement.
In Turkey, where Navantia has a technical office, the value of the ToT contract amounts to 100 million euros and the displacement of the vessel designed by Navantia is 20,000 tons; in the case of Saudi Arabia, where there is currently a commercial and A branch will be opened shortly, the value of the Saudi corvettes amounts to 2,000 million euros and the total displacement of the ships built amounts to 15,000 tons.
Paco Vílchez has also highlighted the importance of Navantia being present in the opportunities that the 2030 vision is generating for the naval industry.
To continue competing in the international market, Navantia will have to reinforce investment in R + D + i and evolve towards new business models where technology transfer and digital transformation will become increasingly important.
