Navantia presents its future centers of excellence at FEINDEF
- The centers will be located in Ría de Ferrol, Bahía de Cádiz, Cartagena and Madrid, with a focus on digitization and the green transition
- "They will represent a new way of working to optimize and catalyze the potential of our technological and human capital and offer added value", said the president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez
The president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez, presented this Friday at the FEINDEF fair the project to start up a total of eight centers of excellence in the different centers of the company by 2025, a plan valued at 30 million euros.
The creation of these centers of excellence is contemplated in Navantia's 2018-2022 Strategic Plan and is part of its digital transformation plan. “These centers are going to be a new way of working. It is about building on the human and technological capital that Navantia already has to catalyze its full potential, attract talent and offer added value ”, explained Ricardo Domínguez, in a brief presentation.
These centers will be specialized in various areas that Navantia has identified as future lines, such as the digital twin, the digitization of the naval sector, cybersecurity, the use of hydrogen, the enhancement of offshore wind, sustainability in marine environments and clean fuels.
The presentation, which was attended by the Director General of Armament and Material (DIGAM) of the Ministry of Defense, Admiral Santiago Ramón González, was attended by the directors of the different business areas of Navantia: the Director of Naval Construction, Agustín Álvarez ; that of Systems and Services and Digital Transformation, Donato Martínez and that of Green Energies, Javier Herrador.
Navantia wants to make these centers of excellence a reference point for knowledge in skills related to digital transformation. They will be a collaborative space for the exchange of information between companies, universities, clients, technological partners, as well as between the centers of excellence themselves.
To do this, they are equipping themselves with the most cutting-edge instruments in terms of data processing, exchange and visualization. Several of them will be located in specific buildings, optimized for their functions, which will house laboratories, test and training areas, facilities designed to promote technology and innovation.
The Center of Excellence of the digital twin, located in Ferrol, will be aimed at consolidating this tool, developed for the F-110 frigate program, as a strategy for new Navantia products, as well as serving as a reference center for the naval sector and other industries towards digital twins. The center of excellence for offshore wind energy is also planned in Ría de Ferrol.
The Center of Excellence for Smart Ships ('smart ships'), which will be located in Madrid, will have the mission to participate in the design of totally sustainable ships, from an environmental point of view, with a very high degree of integration, connectivity and monitoring, as well as a high degree of cybersecurity.
The Naval Systems Center of Excellence, in Bahía de Cádiz (San Fernando), will be dedicated to Research, innovation, development and integration of solutions in artificial intelligence and in Cybersecurity capabilities, applied both to products, as well as to processes and Navantia services. In Bahía de Cádiz (Puerto Real), the Additive Manufacturing Center (CEFAN) is already operating for the study of new materials, optimization of designs, prototype printing, post-processing and joining techniques to support the life cycle of the ships and other products. The Green Energy and Circular Economy Center will also be located in Puerto Real.
For its part, the Intelligent Services Center of Excellence in Cartagena will promote research applying methodologies, solutions and technologies to accelerate the innovation of differentiated services that will provide a comparative advantage of Navantia's offer.
Cartagena will also be the headquarters of the Center of Excellence for Hydrogen Technologies, dedicated to promoting research, innovation and the development of clean propulsive solutions for the naval sector based on green hydrogen and other derived energy vectors. This center will train and position Navantia in the hydrogen value chain business and will constitute a technological pole that will attract talent and innovation and will act as a tractor of national technology using a network operating model.
