The stand of the Ministry of Defense at the FEINDEF fair welcomed this Friday the signing of the order for the execution of the Underwater Intervention Maritime Action Vessel (BAM-IS) to be built by Navantia in the Puerto Real shipyard.
The signing was carried out in the presence of the general director of Armament and Material (DIGAM), Admiral Santiago Ramón González and the president of Navantia, Ricardo Domínguez, together with the Admiral Chief of the Navy General Staff (AJEMA), Admiral General Antonio Martorell Lacave .
The construction of the BAM-IS will generate a workload of 1.3 million hours over three and a half years. The expected delivery time is 42 months from the signing of the execution order.
The work will generate a direct and indirect added value for the economy of approximately 54 million euros per year and an aggregate demand of 159 million euros per year. Regarding jobs, there will be 1,115 jobs, including direct employment in Navantia (about 160), collaborating industry (290) and induced employment (665), corresponding to suppliers and economic activity around construction. Like any naval project, the project will have an important driving effect on industrial activity.
The execution order has been signed by the Deputy Director General of Acquisitions of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Alfonso Torán; and, on behalf of Navantia, the Director of Naval Construction, Agustín Álvarez and the Director of Systems and Services, Donato Martínez.
"The construction of the BAM-IS will mean providing the Spanish Navy with better capabilities and boosting our technological potential, as well as an important driving effect and the creation of quality employment in the Bay of Cádiz", declared the president of Navantia.
The execution order was authorized on October 11 by the Council of Ministers, for an amount of 166.46 million euros. The contract includes both the construction of the ship and the acquisition and integration of the underwater intervention teams.
The BAM-IS will replace the current Navy Rescue and Rescue ship 'Neptuno', which is nearing the end of its operational life and is currently in charge of the most complex underwater intervention operations, both in the specific field of the Navy. as well as in collaboration with other State agencies.
The future BAM-IS will have among its missions diving operations, rescue, support for the rescue and rescue of wrecked submarines, intervention and rescue in accidents and shipwrecks and surveillance and monitoring of underwater heritage.
The integration of the systems, sensors and equipment that it must carry to address its wide range of missions will mean a new technological advance for Navantia, which already has recognized experience as a systems integrator and will allow it to expand its product catalog and potential markets.
