Navantia participates in the forum “The supply chain” in Defense programs
Agustín Álvarez, Director of Naval Construction, has participated in the round table "The supply chain", where the importance of all supplying companies in the large Defense programs, which go beyond a supply, and have to guarantee to the Ministry the entire chain until the maintenance and preferably in the national territory.
The debate has been divided into 3 parts: Impact of COVID in the supply chain, operational autonomy of the armed forces and cost of the supply chain. The table has had other members such as Teresa Ruiz from Santa Bárbara, Jorge Estévez from Indra and Alberto Badaya from Airbus.
Agustín Álvarez has assured that, as a public company, the first objective in the COVID period was to protect the health of all employees with well-worked protocols and to put the company at the service of society. Regarding the effect on the supply chain, he has commented that the main national contracts in progress were affected and together with the Ministry they were appropriately rescheduled. He has highlighted the development of telematic assistance with some foreign suppliers and the importance of day-to-day communication with the value chain, prioritizing the human aspect.
In the second block of the table, Agustín Álvarez has highlighted that the pandemic has caused countries to want to regain their supply autonomy and in this sense there are the European Recovery Funds to consolidate the industry.
Finally and with respect to the third block, it has highlighted the effect of the increase in the cost of raw materials and transport in the programs, such as the price of steel and energy, as well as the delay of materials for systems, affecting all this in terms of time and in the income statement.
